With extensive trial experience in Utah, New Mexico and Texas, Lance Milne is devoted to catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases in the areas of workplace injury, product liability, motor vehicle accidents, catastrophic accidents, insurance bad faith and medical malpractice cases. Mr. Milne’s expertise has been especially focused in trucking, construction and oilfield industries, working with victims and their families in personal injury and wrongful death cases, as a result of horrific collisions, workplace accidents, explosions and drilling accidents. He also has dedicated a substantial percentage of his work to aviation industry accident cases, often working in tandem with Alan Mortensen, his colleague and cofounder here at Mortensen & Milne.  Many of Mr. Milne and Mr. Mortensen’s cases have been closely followed throughout the nation as well as in Utah, including their record setting $25,000,000 product liability wrongful death jury verdict in Utah, which was among the Top 50 wrongful death verdicts in the United States that year, and the Elko, Nevada tractor-trailer vs. bus tragedy cases.

He has successfully resolved numerous claims and lawsuits through jury trials, voluntary settlements and alternative dispute resolution. Effective in obtaining multi-million dollar settlements in several states, including Utah and Texas, for complex injury cases, he was able to obtain a several eight-figure settlement for clients in the same year. Mr. Milne is a member of the Multi-Million Dollar and Million Dollar Advocates Forums. He credits his effectiveness to hard work, integrity, compassionately caring for clients, and vigorously representing his clients.  Additionally, Mr. Milne’s prior work in the insurance defense industry allowed him to see how potential parties on either side of a case would approach the complex litigation process.

Within the first decade of his professional career as an attorney, Mr. Milne has garnered several notable honors. He has been named for several consecutive years to the Mountain States Rising Stars list, an exclusive compilation recognizing just 2.5 percent of all licensed attorneys in the Mountain States region. Super Lawyers, a service of Thomson Reuters, is a professional rating service predicated on a rigorous peer-review, research-driven process honoring attorneys who have attained a high distinction of peer recognition and professional achievement.

In addition to being admitted to practice in all state courts in Utah, New Mexico and Texas, Mr. Milne is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Courts for the District of Utah, Western District of Texas, and Eastern District of Texas. He also has been admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court.

A native of Utah, he received his bachelor of arts degree from Weber State University in 2004, where he studied business administration with an emphasis in marketing, and German. He received his juris doctorate (J.D.) degree in 2007 from Texas Tech University School of Law, where he was a Board of Regents Scholar and had served as a vice chair for the Board of Barristers. He is an active member of the Utah Association for Justice, the New Mexico Trial Lawyers Association, and the Texas Trial Lawyers Association. Currently, Mr. Milne serves on the Board of Governors for the Utah Association for Justice.

He enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing golf, cycling, skiing, hunting, and watching college football. Mr. Milne is fluent in German.
